Allison Shapira is a former opera singer and the president of Global Public Speaking, a company that helps people give powerful and authentic speeches and presentations. Shapira teaches at Georgetown University and has taught workshops at the Harvard Kennedy School and MIT Sloan School of Management. She particularly enjoys working with women around the world to help them find their voice.
Shapira has a BA in Italian literature from Boston University and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School. She speaks Italian, Spanish, and Hebrew and has studied Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, Georgian, German, Modern Greek, Polish, and Turkish; this means she can ask for directions in 12 languages but can only understand the responses in four. One of her proudest moments is performing the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in 2004. She currently lives in Washington, DC and works around the world.
